Orkney
Crafts in Orkney have undergone a revival in recent years, and a large variety of goods are available, some traditional, others modern. Many products take their inspiration from the past, the local landscape with its changing light, nature or a combination of these aspects of Orkney. There is great variety of handicrafts,
pottery, wood-carving, weaving, tapestries, felted wool, cured sheep-skins, leatherwork, furniture making etc.
Knitwear remains an important activity, with over 500 knitters producing nearly 50,000 garments a year, mostly for export. Both traditional and modern designs are produced and the range is great.
At the exhibition there were raku ceramics and woolens from Orkney
