Faroe Islands
Sheep have always played a big part in the Faroe Islands, even the islands name derive from them. Wool for export was just as important in the old days as fish is now and it was called the gold of The Faroe Islands. But when other fabrics became easy to obtain the wool became secondary and the old work methods were almost lost. The owners of Suðuroyar Ullvirki, that exhibit woolens in the exhibition, have their feet firmly planted in the tradition of handling the wool but make modern clothing. All the patterns are modern, the fabric is wowen and knitted by machine but fulled in the same way as it has been fulled through the ages making it water and windthight without becoming stiff or hard.
Other items from the Faroe Islands were ceramics and glass and sculptures made of pewter.
