Arsborealis

The Arsborealis project group had organized four exhibitions before the Arsborealis project was launched, the Vestnorden Arts & Craft in 2002, 2004 and 2006 and Transform - West Nordic Arts and Crafts in 2005.

Vestnorden Arts & Crafts 2006

The third exhibition "Vestnorden Arts & Crafts" opened in Nuuk the 11th -14th of May 2006 and it is the first time it opens in Greenland. The exhibitors came from countries and regions in the North Atlantic and the Arctic area as in the two previous exhibitions that were held in Iceland.

Transform - West Nordic Arts and Crafts

The three West Nordic countries, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, opened the arts and crafts exhibition "Transform" at The North Atlantic Pier (Bryggen) in Copenhagen the 19th of May 2005. The exhibition travels from country to country and has been in The Faroe Islands, Estonia and Aland. In March 2006 it opens in Iceland, in May in Greenland and in June in Germany. Modern arts and crafts items are on display at the exhibition but firmly rooted in each of the three countries tradition. The Icelandic contribution to the exhibition is jewelry and adornments, the Faroe Islands show things made of wool and items made of stone and bone come from Greenland.

Vestnorden Arts & Crafts 2004

The second exhibition "Vestnorden Arts & Crafts" was held in Laugardalur Sports Hall 15. - 19. september 2004. It was the largest handicrafts exhibition that has been held in Iceland and the exhibitors came from countries and regions in the North Atlantic and the Arctic area. The main exhibitors were from the three West-Nordic countries , The Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland, but other participants came from Scandinavia, Canada and the Baltic countries.

President of Iceland Receives Exhibitors

On Tuesday the 14th of September all participators in the 2004 exhibition were invited to a reception at the presidential residence at Bessastadir. The president of Iceland, Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson hosted the reception.

Conference 2004

In connection with the exhibition Vestnorden Arts & Crafts 2004 there was a conference dealing with issues such as use of raw materials from nature, culture and handicraft and marketing. Ther were three lecturers, Adalsteinn Ingolfsson who talked about how it was possible to evaluate of quality in arts and crafts, Thorarinn Solmundarson introduced the Northern Periphery Program and Bente Mackholm and Thue Christiansen told about Danish and Inuit handicrafts.

Vestnorden Arts & Crafts 2002

The exhibition Vestnorden Arts & Crafts was first held in Reykjavik in November 2002 where the three West-Nordic countries were the main exhibitors. To highlight culture in the North Atlantic and Arctic area crafts people from Canada in the west to Finland and the Baltic countries in the east were invited to participate.
